Welcome to the Future

Some of you might remember me from my website Montreal Tech Writer, or even going back future to my original blog Reawaken Culture / Decipher Technology, well, the future I was writing about is happening now so I thought it high time I snag my namesake domain and consolidate things here.

As you can read about on my LinkedIn, I have myriad experience across mediums and domains, mostly to do with technology and journalism, spanning now over 30 years.

So why a new website?

I thought it an opportune time as I take on not one tech conference but three:

  • WordCamp Canada in Ottawa
  • Le WordCamp in Montréal
  • and Medium Day, which is online, alas

All of these conference have both a tech and a writing component so dovetail with my many years working as a technical writer for some advanced software develops including Autodesk and Moment Factory.

But most specifically to what I feel like the future has arrived inevitably has to do with AI. I have a distinct point of view on this, which is that we don’t really need AGI because we are it. That is, while Yuval Noah Harari is calling AI — alien intelligence I was using this term decades ago picked up from a book from 2001 by that name which describes how AI must work together with human intelligence to really be of value: my question is therefore why do all these companies and hype-machines was to tally take humans out of the loop? It just makes no sense to me.

Human agency, that Je ne sais quoi, is what will ultimately give the narrow AI we have now legs.
